MAC (Media Access Control) addresses are globally unique and consist of a 48 bit address denoted in HEX. The first half of the MAC address is a code which identifies the manufacturer or vendor of the equipment. These first 3 octets are known as the Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI), the second half is a manufacturing reference assigned by the vendor is unique within their scope.
